Many of us hire professional photographers for our special events and appreciate their valuable talents and skills. No doubt there will be lots of photo buffs in the family as well helping out with candid snaps.

Etiquette is a lovely word but it does not have to be complicated.

If you are having an event and it is special, written invitations are a way of setting the scene and communicating your story. All About Paper have years of experience in coordinating special events and creating invitations. You are in safe hands with the All About Paper design team.

A quick summary of some things you might want to consider, for big events as well as special birthdays, anniversaries, graduation parties, showers, well just any occasion that you want to invite people and make it special.

Save the date cards A great way to let your guests from out of town know about your wedding date is to send Save-the-Date cards. They may be essential for planning flights and booking time off to be with you. Save-the-dates should be sent out at least 3 to 6 months in advance of your wedding date.

Dress code
Dress code should be included in formal invitations. The style of your invitation and message projected can also reinforce formal vs casual events.

Money and gifts
Today it is very common to ask for money instead of gifts, how you ask for it is where etiquette is important. You may use a wishing well or a gift registry but please don’t include anything about gifts in the invitation itself, a separate insert is more appropriate.

RSVP
Response deadlines should be no later than 1 month before the special day, or the date your caterer needs a final count. RSVP cards included with your wedding invitation are a great way to make sure your guests reply quickly.

Romance does live in the heart of the macho Aussie male.

Shopping in Carindale today I ventured into a gift shop, drawn in by the show of reduced price wine glasses at the door. The assistant was helping a young male, approx late 20's, purchase tealight holders (small brandy balloon shapes) - no my life does not evolve around alcohol - and she was putting sand and tealights into them.

"Isn't he gorgeous" she said, "he's going to meet his girlfriend down on the beach, where he will have all the candles lit - and he's going to propose" - I got goosebumps. How romantic was that.
I told him I thought he was a lovely young man, and that whoever he was proposing to was lucky to have him, and wished him and his fiance to be happiness, health and a long life together.

I do hope she said yes, and if she did and if the couple would like to come and see me I would be happy to give them a very special price on their wedding invitations.

Melissa and Andrea of Point Shoot Play who teach half day photography lessons here at All About Paper are not only very skilled in the use of equipment but also talented teachers. They like to inspire others to achieve their best. Our class numbers are kept small to allow you individual attention for your own needs with your own camera at your own skill level.

Photoshop is a useful tool for photo manipulation that has both high end professional and home based editions with something for everyone. Much like the class where our numbers are kept small to allow you more personal attention, where everyone has their hands on the computer mouse learning the tricks that make this computer program a sinch.

Did you see in the recent edition of Better Homes and Gardens magazine their version of invitations using Christina Re paper? It really is a lovely design.

Inspire Bridal

We are excited to announce that All About Paper will be advertising with Inspire Bridal and working closely with them on events planned for our local Redlands Region.

Redlands, Cleveland, Wellington Point, Ormiston, Redland Bay, Stradbroke and the islands are packed full of wonderful venues and locations for special events.

In the mean time we can show you a copy of a new card magazine. Titled Do Crafts, the magazines does have some information on other paper crafts including scrapbooking and gift ideas but for the most part it is focused on making beautiful cards for all kinds of occasions.

Pergamano or Parchment Craft

Have you considered white lacy decorative images of pergamano or parchment craft in your invitations for celebrations?

The craft itself has a long artistic history originating from Europe and now spread throughout the world. Both Pergamano and Parchment craft continue to grow and evolve with new designs and applications resulting in projects that can be very traditional and formal through to very modern and fresh.

All About Paper is very lucky to have a qualified teacher in Pergamano and Parchment craft. Her designs are very skilful and beautiful but more importantly as a teacher she loves to help students discover and grow their own style and skills. We have a large range of supplies for both Pergamano and Parchment craft available here in the store.

Classes are held on the first Sunday of the month, half or whole day, beginners through advanced. As Ms Pergamano says ‘what better way to spend an afternoon than with new friends enjoying a handicraft in sunny surroundings’. Numbers are limited, please phone in advance to book your seats.

There is a new card magazine that will include a column dedicated to Pergamano being launched shortly. Samples of the card magazine are available at the store now and subscription registrations will be taken to ensure availability. Technique classes based around some of the magazine card projects will be scheduled and the first class will be a freebie on the 26th.

Planning special events need not be overwhelming when there are so many resources freely available. I am building up this blog as a resource with tips on etiquette, the latest design ideas and information about local suppliers or venues.

As the major retailer for Christina Re in the Redlands, our shop has everything in the range including idea books packed full of fun designs using the Christina Re papers.

Another free resource you might consider is the local library. Our Cleveland library has 100s of idea books and magazines for you too choose from.

If you can not find something off the peg that suits your special occasion, ask our design team to prepare something unique that suits your theme. For the budget conscious our work area is available for you to utilise tools and equipment not only a great way to keep costs under control but also have fun with family and friends by allowing them to participate and contribute to your special occasion.

When writing these posts, as a local shopkeeper, I am thinking about sharing the best our local region has to offer. From the hit counter I can see that people from all over are searching for ideas on how to make their invitations for celebrations or announcements special and unique as they are.

This blog space is an initiative to support our growing business in the Invitations for Celebrations. All About Paper is Redland’s only award winning papercraft store. As part of our expansion at the Raby Bay Habour village, we expanded our range of invitation and specialty papers and really enjoyed sharing the experience of planning special events with happy families.

Part of our service includes a free design studio, utilising our talented team of artists who enjoy creating unique invitations or table décor for your special event themed with colours or features that match your personal tastes. They like a challenge so bring your ideas and colour schemes to the shop and let them play with our ever growing range of speciality papers and trims.Our design studio/workshop is well lit and well equipped with all of the latest equipment, Cricut, Cuttlebug, Pazzle, which are available for use outside of scheduled class times. Organising a family and friends working bee to create your cards is a great way of sharing the experience, particularly if you combine that with a nice lunch out by the water.

Recently I have been asked to author a number of articles in publications on the topics of special occasions, the legends and traditions and how that flows on through today as we can still see the horseshoes on Wedding cards and silver tokens for Christenings.

Through this blog I will continue to share little tidbits of inspiration or ideas and gradually expand the links to other suppliers in our local region.
